St James, Garlickhythe

We provide grants to a number of religious institutions:

Our home church, St. James Garlickhythe, which is the livery church for a number of companies. It occupies a site which has been a sacred place since 1100 AD and was rebuilt by Sir Christopher Wren in 1863 since when it has become known as ‘Wren’s Lantern’. The annual service of the Company is held at St James on the first Thursday after Michaelmas when the Master, Wardens, Court of Assistants, Honorary Chaplain and the Clerk, all led by the Beadle, process to it through the City streets.

We provide a bursary to a Chorister of St Paul’s Cathedral and a donation to St. Paul’s Cathedral Trust

We recently funded the production of new copes for the Bishops and Clergy of Southwark Cathedral, sewn by the Cathedral’s Broderers.

Each year we support the charities chosen by the Company’s Honorary Chaplain, the Right Reverend Christoper Chessun, Bishop of Southwark.
