Philip was born in 1957 and educated at Highgate School followed by a BA degree in History at the University of Leicester and a Master of Philosophy (History) degree at Queens' College Cambridge.
After a year working for his father's wholesale company he started work as a Lloyd's broker in the City of London in 1981 at CT Bowring Insurance Brokers. In a career spanning some 36 years he worked for a number of City insurance brokers, specialising in property and machinery breakdown insurance. From 1988 this was in the field of Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals, and from 1999 in Power Generation. Philip arranged large insurance programmes in the London and European markets on behalf of major clients from many countries but principally the United States, and travelled widely. He retired in 2017.
Philip married Carol (who has recently become a member of the Guild of Nurses) in 1984, and they have two children - Jonathan, born in 1987 who works in the City, and Claire, born in 1990 who works for the NHS. He and Carol became grandparents for the first time in July 2018.
Philip joined the Needlemakers Livery in 1986, was a member of the Court of Assistants for five years, and was installed as Junior Warden in October 2018.
Philip enjoys travel, and wine, often the two together as evidenced by various holidays in California, and six (to date) holidays in and around the winelands of the Western Cape in South Africa, and with various other trips planned that will include some wine-related activities.
